OrderingHow Many Badge Reels Should You Order?
Ordering custom badge reels for the first time, most organizations either overbuy on a logo they’ll refine or underbuy and miss the volume price — and both cost money. Because printed reels carry a setup cost, the per-unit price drops sharply with quantity, so the right order size is as much about economics as it is about headcount.
Here’s how to size an order once you separate your program into its real needs.
Staff programs: order to headcount plus a buffer
For a department or workforce, count your badged staff and add a 15 to 20 percent buffer for new hires, replacements, and losses over the year. Then check the price tier — if the buffer lands you near a higher tier, ordering up usually costs only marginally more total while cutting per-unit cost.
Events: order to registration, then round up
For a conference or event, base the count on expected registration and round up a tier, since a reel is inexpensive and running short at check-in is worse than a small surplus. Extra reels double as replacements and next-event stock.
Ongoing programs: reorder on a fill rate
If you issue reels continuously, order 6 to 12 months of supply based on your hiring and replacement rate and reorder before you run low. Because we keep your artwork and spec on file, reorders are fast and match exactly.
| Program | Starting quantity | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Department / staff | Headcount + 15–20% buffer | Covers new hires and losses |
| Conference / event | Registration, rounded up a tier | Running short is worse than surplus |
| Ongoing ID program | 6–12 months of supply | Reorder before you run low |
| Multi-department | Combine styles in one run | Share setup, hit a higher tier |
The single biggest lever on per-reel cost is quantity: once your logo is final, ordering up one tier usually pays for itself immediately.
